Tomás is participating in an internship program with SEI as part of his PhD research in University College Cork. The work involves investigating the development of new user interface tools designed to provide a simplified design process for new areas in the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning (LEAP) system using LEAP's API.

Tomás holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Physics and Mathematics from Maynooth University. After graduating in 2012, he worked as a Microsoft SQL database administrator for two years before entering the MEngSc program in Sustainable Energy in the Department of Energy Engineering at UCC. The MEngSc included a minor thesis on energy demand and efficiency modelling in Ireland for the period 2015 – 2030, using LEAP. Tomás completed the MEngSc in sustainable energy with a distinction in 2015. His PhD research focuses on the construction of a 2050 emissions model for Ireland across industry, services, residential, transport and agriculture using the LEAP tool.
